Tips For Using Green Holiday Decorations
There are lots of different Christmas light options you can choose from. Your Christmas decorations can be environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The holidays are almost here so it’s time to put out the Christmas lights and put your house in a festive mood. Here are some ways you can decorate your home and still be kind to the earth.
Use fresh holiday decorations: You can make your home festive with live evergreen wreaths and other winter plants like holly trees and poinsettias. Natural decorations are biodegradable, won’t end up in a dump and add an unexpected touch to any house’s decor. They’re lots of holiday decorations that don’t use electricity at all.
Use light-emitting-diode Christmas lights: Some hardware stores are trying out Christmas light trade-in rebates to help entice people to change to LED Christmas lights. LED (light-emitting-diode) Christmas lights cost a little more new but they offer large energy savings over incandescent light bulbs. You may save up to 40% on your electric costs for holiday lights if you switch to LED decorations. But be careful, light emitting diode lights are not always a great deal.
Use decorations you already have: By using Christmas decorations again and again you are keeping lots of wires out of your local landfill and being wise about using resources. Try to skip purchasing all new Christmas lights each year. One of the best ways to save money is to go shopping in your own closets!
With a little planning you can put up decorations for Christmas and still be green. As long as your holiday decorations are in adequate condition it should be safe to use them all over your home. Don’t forget that your actions today can be a perfect gift for tomorrow’s children. Many of these environmentally friendly decorating ideas will put more money in your pocket that you can spend on holiday gifts!
