Should I Choose Between a Door Draft Stopper or Plastic Kit?

As an expert in home maintenance, we are often asked about window insulation, especially during the colder months when people seem to concentrate on the inside temperature of their home a lot more. While air conditioning is certainly very important in our tropical states during the summer months, it does seem that we all pay more attention to the creature comforts and the warmth of our homes during the winter. Maybe this could be something to do with the generally clement weather that we enjoy in the summer as well.

Window insulation seems to be at the top of a list of questions when people become aware of those pesky drafts. People want to know how easy or cost effective it would be to fix this issue. They have often heard about plastic insulation kits and wonder whether they should pay for the fitment of those, or consider door draft stoppers?

You can treat all your windows just as effectively with door draft stoppers. Remember that you only have a few doors to worry about, but can have up to 20 to 30 windows and we often find that the largest problems occur here.

You certainly would consider the proper insulation of your home, if you realized that you could save between 25 and 30% of the cost of your cooling or heating expenses by keeping the drafts at bay. You will see your monthly utility bill go down substantially by saving on your heating and cooling costs.

If you can feel a draft when you’re sitting down in your home, especially if it is a rather windy day outside, then you know you have a major problem. This is just not an aesthetic situation either, as energy is very expensive and you will be paying for needless waste.

If you are thinking about getting a plastic window insulation kit, remember that once fitted, you will not be able to easily open your windows once the spring rolls around. Many people love to look forward to that time and to have a nice breeze through the home. These plastic kits are not very flexible.

A door draft stopper is the best solution from both a cost point of view of and for accessibility. If you fit the door draft stopper on all your doors and windows, they can be easily moved if you need to open the windows, during beautiful spring weather, for example.

While you have a number of windows and doors to think about, remember that you can pick up door draft stoppers in quantity, normally at a discount. The durable polypropylene products will keep your expensive conditioned air in place. Ground corn cob within is known to be the best insulator available.
