Getting Rid Of Age Spots.

Age spots are annoying but harmless, but well known to many women in their later years. Although they can be harmless they certainly dont look good and so many women are interested in finding out more about what they are and how to get rid of them.

Age spots can also be known as liver spots or sun spots or, technically, lentigines. They are visible on the surface of the skin because they are discolored, being a brownish or blackish color, or possibly red. They are called liver spots sometimes because it was suspected that they were related to problems with the liver.

This is now discredited though.

And you ought not confuse sun spots with melanoma. Age spots are harmless but melanoma isn’t and if you have any dark colored spots on your skin, either your face or any other piece of skin, get it checked out by a doctor.

What causes age spots? There’s a combination of 2 causes, age and sun exposure. As we age the sun damage to our skin accumulates and we start, in some cases, to develop spots on our face, the back of our hands and on the back of the neck, all 4 places being where we get the most sun.

As we age our skin is less able to regenerate and repair the skin cells, and so gradually damage occurs and skin pigments build up between the dermis and the epidermis, and this is an age spot.

So should we remove these sun spots? There’s a number of options, and one is to do nothing as long as a doctor has checked them out. From a health point of view it isn’t essential to remove age spots. They can stay if you wish.

You may want to remove them because they look unsightly though. For many women, and sometimes men, developing liver spots is concerning because they are so visible, particularly on the face. So how do you go about removing age spots?

Theres a number of ways to remove age spots. Some laser therapies may remove age spots, though this may be expensive and is not necessary. They can also be removed with cryotherapy, or the use of extreme cold through sources like dry ice. This is a medical procedure and you should consult your doctor about this, as you should if you are considering laser treatment as well.

There is one other option. There are natural skin care products that are showing good results in removing age spots. If you are aging you ought to be using high quality skin care products anyway, and the best are now demonstrating an ability to reduce the appearance of facial spots as well. This is of course a slower process than a medical procedure.

In particular vitamin E is known to reduce the appearance of age spots because of its anti oxidant and other properties. Vitamin E is of course found in a wide range of skin care products for its many properties that are beneficial to the skin, however in most cases the form of vitamin E that is used is one that is not particularly effective, because a synthetic version is used, which is cheaper than a more effective natural vitamin E.

Why is it in those products? So that they can put “Vitamin E” on the label to sell more product.

The very best natural skin care products in the world use a natural form of vitamin E that is way more effective and is added at a much higher concentration.

That’s the basics of age spots, or liver spots or sun spots if you prefer. You don’t need to remove sun spots, but you may want to. But always talk to your doctor first. But remember if it’s age spots and not melanoma that you’ve got there are excellent natural skin care products producing excellent results on age spots. It beats laser therapy.
