Are You Looking For Parenting Advice?

Parenting advice for children that are younger than teenage years is something most people need. The teenage years are something I can not even begin to give you advice on. People much more qualified than me, will need to give you advice on teenagers. I am not even going to touch that one. Let’s concentrate on the younger years. The years that are important for shaping your child into the man or woman they will become.

You will probably agree that being a parent is often hard but rewarding. It is not always easy to know if we are doing the right thing when it comes to our child. The best advice I have is no matter what you are doing, if it has anything to do with your child, always do it out of love. When punishing your child, do not do it out of anger, do it out of love. The best thing that we as parents can ever do for our child is love them.

When dealing with a toddler there are some things you need to keep in mind. A toddler is going to break down and have temper tantrums. There are things you can do to prevent this from happening though. If your child stays home with you during the day it is very important that they get exercise like a short walk or something to that effect. You should also play with your child, I am not suggesting that you spend the entire day entertaining your toddler, that is not realistic.

If a toddler is stimulated enough and kept busy for a good portion of the time they will be easier to handle. You will also have less temper tantrums if your toddler is on a schedule. A schedule helps a toddler to know what is going on and what she or he can expect at any certain time. This gives them a secure feeling and they are less likely to break down when it is nap time or bed time.

When children out grow the toddler age and hit the school ages things start to change for you and for them. When your child starts school they feel like they are finally a big kid. Now it is time for you to treat them like a big kid. Giving your school aged children light chores after school is a great way to teach them responsibility. The chore will need to depend on the age of the child. Do not expect a five or six year old to clean the entire kitchen.

When it is time to discipline your school age child, especially the ones that have just started school you should expect a few melt downs. A kindergartner has still not quite outgrown the toddler ways and they may just start throwing a tantrum like they use to. This would be the perfect time to start teaching them to voice their feelings. You should tell you child that telling you his is mad or frustrated is fine, but that it needs to be done with respect.

I know that these things are not always going to work on all kids. I also know that sometimes we have to discipline our children a little tougher than what I have suggested. When things get to out of hand with a toddler or an older child it is time for you as the parent to step in and put your foot down. It is good to be nice and understanding to your child but there is a time for hard love and if they need it there is nothing wrong with punishing your child.

Some people prefer not to spank their children, there are several ways to discipline your child with out hitting them. Time outs are great for younger children but what about they kids that are a little older like ten and twelve years old? Do we really expect a time out to work for them? Not likely, and if it does then good for you keep it up. The best thing to do with children this age is take away something they love. Find something they use daily or very often and take it away until they can stop the behavior that caused you to take it in the first place.
