3 Tips For Hunting Whitetail Deer

1. Did you know you should have multiple blind and tree stand locations for each season, and regardless of what you saw the previous day, you should not hunt the same location every day you hunt. This is to prevent too much human activity in any one area. If a big buck senses the presents of humans they will change their pattern and stop traveling in your hunting area. This will also allow you to learn more about the patterns and movement during each phase of the hunting season. It would also be advantageous for you keep a journal, be sure you log all activity accurately logging what you see from each blind each day, and map out the patterns. This information will be invaluable as you progress in your hunt.

The deers hearing is so acute they can hear you stumbling into your stand from a great distance and will know better than to walk in your direction. Practice taking a couple of small steps then stopping for a couple seconds then a couple more then stopping. Also don’t walk in a direct straight line. Zig zag a bit. The idea is to make the deer think you are a squirrel or other small harmless critter. This may take some practice but if you watch the movements of a squirrel next time you will get the idea. Not alerting deer to your presents could mean the difference between sitting in your stand for a couple of hours or a whole day.

3. Get off the beaten path. Deer avoid humans and hunters, and you should too. If you are able to go a little extra mile in your hunting grounds, do it. Getting away from common areas will present you with opportunities no one else will have. Chances are, there are the bigger bucks in these areas as well.Remember the more you hunt, read, scout, and practice the better you will be. Good luck and happy hunting.
